Early detection is crucial to avoid other serious problems. If you suspect your pool or spa is leaking you may try one or all of these techniques. If you have an automatic fill line, be sure to turn it off before you start these tests.

The Skimmer Test
Use a pencil to mark the water level of the pool or spa at the inside of the skimmer. Check the mark 24 hours later. Your pool or spa should lose no more than 1/4 inch per day. Otherwise, a leak is indicated. Normal evaporation  is 2 inches a week.

The Bucket Test
Place a bucket filled with pool or spa water on a first step. Weight it with a rock or brick so it won't float away. Using an indelible Marker, carefully indicate the water level on the inside of the bucket. The inside water level should be at the exact level as the water level in the pool on the outside of the bucket. Check this mark 24 hours later. If the water inside the bucket is higher than the water level in the pool, a leak in the pool or spa is indicated.

Plumbing Leak Test
The last test we suggest is a method of identifying whether or not more water is lost when the system is running vs. not running. First, while the system is running as usual, check to see if water is being lost. Next, check to see if water is lost when the system is turned off. Do these tests within a 2-day period.

As preventive maintenance, we recommend turning off the automatic fill line every 6 months for 3 weeks. During this time frame add water with a garden hose. Follow the steps above to insure you don't have a leak.

If one of these steps indicates a leak may be present, don't wait protect your investment. Call Maximum Pool, Inc. immediately at (949) 859-7130.
